It's torture and it was only Facebook's new policy of monitoring online spaces that prevented me from making some very obscene hand gestures at them for it.īeat Saber's multiplayer works, but it doesn't fit the game in the slightest. And to add insult to injury, you'll repeatedly run into people cosplaying as the streamer Ninja and flossing all the way through the lobby waits. However, there's a huge gulf between how you feel playing Beat Saber and how you look playing, and being presented with watching four other people only serves as a reminder that you're not actually as awesome as you think. The whole point of the game is that you feel cool as hell while playing, slicing and dicing to the beat like a particularly rhythmic ninja.
On a fundamental level, the presence of other people makes Beat Saber a less enticing concept. I don't want to sit and think about content rights and the inherently divisive nature of paid DLC while playing a fun rhythm game, but Beat Saber forces you to do just that. The reason for this probably lies somewhere in contracts signed between Beat Games and the collaborating artists, I don't see why Beat Games couldn't just throw you a bone and let you play to songs you don't own only when they're voted for by the lobby you're currently playing with. While there's an option when matchmaking to only allow songs built-in to the game, that has the reverse problem of not letting me play the songs I've paid for.
